Lovely apartment in great location., Disappointing Owner Attitude

This apartment is well located in the Cannaregio area of Venice. It was a lovely well appointed apartment, with three bedrroms and three bathrooms. The kitchen had what we needed and there was a washing machine and clothes airer for laundry. The apartment was just off fondamenta della Misericordia, which has many restaurants, bars and other amenities. There is also a supermarket nearby if you want to get supplies. It is easy to get to from the Santa Lucia Train Station, and is not too far away from a Vapretto (public transport) stop.

− Unfortunately, we had a bad experience with the property owner after we left the property. Prior to this, we would have rated everything about this property as excellent, because that was our experience. The local agent (Angelo) communicated well with us before and during our stay, and kindly helped us with arranging a porter to get our bags to the train station on the day of our departure. After we had checked out and were on our way, Angelo sent us a message to say that one of the plastic chairs at the dining table had a crack in it and the owner wanted us to pay 75 EUR for it. We had no idea that there was anything wrong with the chair and, as we explained to Angelo, we barely used the dining room as we mostly ate out. Our morning coffee was the only thing we really had in the dining room. We explained this to Angelo but he said he had to refer it to the owner. We reiterated that we always take good care of the properties we rent and were a little offended that the owner was accusing us of not doing so. She also made a disparaging comment about 'Australians" generally and we found this especially offensive. We have always had good reviews from property owners in the past when renting properties through Bookings.com and other vacation rental agencies.. The owner continued to insist that we pay her 75 EUR, so we contacted Bookins.com to complain about what had happened, because the only thing we had done in relation to any of the chairs in the property was sit on them, and none of us are large people, so I am not sure what we were meant to do. Since complaining to Bookings.com we have not had any further communication from either the owner or Bookings.com, so we are unsure of where things stand, and it really tainted what was a very lovely stay in Venice.

We absolutely loved the apartment! The layout, the modern and well-equipped kitchen, the three beautiful bathrooms, and the bedrooms were all excellent. The location was ideal - in a quiet spot but within a walkable distance from the train station and all the main sites. Lots of cool places to eat right around the corner and a surprisingly large discount grocery store (Prix) less than a minute walk away (a bit hard to find at first since it’s at the end of a very narrow alley). Our family of 7 was very comfortable and we only wished we could have stayed longer! We give it 100 stars!
